The Promise of Champagne
Jan 16th
Champagne has been a traditional mark of celebration for events and a symbol of posh taste since the early 18th century. This sparkling wine, made from grapes from the Champagne region of France, has been a notorious status symbol that has endured the test of time. Beginning with the French Aristocracy in the 1700s and continuing into the next decade of the new millennium, Champagne is a luxurious way to celebrate with style.
The cultivation and production of Champagne has gained this sparkling wine a reputation of prestige. Carefully selected, the grapes (usually Chardonnay, Pinot noir or Pinot Meunier) are processed, fermented, pressurized, fermented for a second time, and stored for at least three years until matured. The exhilarating rush of “popping the cork” comes from the release of carbon dioxide from within the bottle, adding an element of excitement to celebratory events.
Champagne has become an icon in popular culture, and has been used to celebrate victories, weddings and other classy events for generations. Artists, musicians, movie stars and writers have used the symbolic gesture of this sparkling wine for over a century. For those who wish to manifest their style and status, having an expensive bottle of this indulgent liquid is almost orthodox.
