7 Secrets for Creating an Upscale Event Experience

Creating an elegant, upscale event can be challenging, but at Trendy Lime we believe a clear vision and a certain panache take events to the next level. Last week we put together a trendy, elegant 1920s themed event for a very special client, premiere global business school INSEAD. Recreate an air of elegance at your next party using our top seven ways to create a truly upscale event experience.

 1.  Set the Stage with an Opulent Venue

For our 1920s inspired soirée we wanted to go with a venue that was period appropriate and provided our guests with networking atmosphere. We chose Bently Reserve. Located in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial district; this historic landmark fit all of our standards.  The Bently Reserve had the added benefit of those little touches of art and architecture, for instance the entrance lobby contains a mural by famed artist Jules Guerin while the surrounding building has an iconic colonnade that is pure Beaux-arts.

 2. A-List Guests

If you don’t want a mosh pit at your next event, make sure the guests bring suave style into your party. For our event at the Bently, this was easy.  Our client INSEAD invited over 350 guests from the alumni network. With campuses on three continents and students of over 80 nationalities, INSEAD is known as the "Business School for the World" and brings together a world-class group of folks with them.

 3. Fine Dining Experience

Exquisite catering is the icing on the cake at an event.  Having ill-suited food at an event (imagine burgers and tuxes), or even worse, not enough food sets the stage for disaster.  When you put together a catering menu, make sure it offers delectable dishes that fit the style and class of the party.  For our INSEAD event we chose fine dining from Schilling &Co led by James Beard award winner Alfred Schilling and his talented staff who put together an artistic and scrumptious display for our guests.

 4. Signature Cocktails

Designing a cocktail menu that fits the bill of your party will leave guests talking about your drinks for weeks.  For our event, we created a cocktail list fit for the 1920s featuring Woodford Reserve and Gentlemans’ Jack.  Here are a few cocktail highlights from the night: Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Classic Martini, Gin Rickey, and Champagne.

 5. Live Music

A really good DJ or band will enliven guests and help them feel relaxed at your event.  For our INSEAD event, TrendyLime hired one of the most demanded DJs in SF- DJ Aykut- who started guests out with a flair of 1920s music and transitioned into more modern music keeping guests at the event from every feeling bored.

 6. Quality Entertainment & Spectacular Decorum

For our 1920s inspired event we chose theme appropriate decorations including an era-inspired photo booth, champagne tower and whiskey tasting.  Entertainment including the dancing girls from DecoBelle who delighted partygoers with era appropriate performance and kid-wonder MasterBlaster danced and tapped his way into all guest’s hearts.

 7. Charity: Do your event with heart

Having some facet of your event raise money for charity brings guests together in a common spirit.  For this event, all proceeds raised from our four challenges - including posing at a photo-booth, kissing a salamander-cladded actor, finding your twin from a 1920s celebrities and completing the whiskey tasting- went to the All the Way Live Foundation.
