The Summer of Racing leading up to America’s Cup is continuing in San Francisco, and the competition is really starting to heat up! San Francisco’s Golden Gate Yacht Club’s Oracle Team USA is ready to defend its title as the holder of the most famous trophy in the sport of yachting, and we’re getting closer to finding out who they will face off against in September.
This is how it works: before the race for the actual America’s Cup can take place, yacht teams from around the world compete in the Louis Vuitton Cup, to determine who will compete against Oracle Team USA. We are now at the point in the Summer of Racing where the Louis Vuitton round robin races are over and the competitors are moving into the semi-finals. Starting on August 6, we’ll see Luna Rossa vs Artemis Racing. Then, starting on August 17, the winner of that semi-final will take on Emirates Team New Zealand. Whoever wins that race will compete against Oracle Team USA in September for America’s Cup.
So get down to the Bay and take in some racing! This is the first time that San Francisco has hosted America’s Cup, which gives us all a unique opportunity to see world-class yacht racing up close. Take advantage of all of the great spectator areas to see how exciting this sport can be! An America’s Cup Park has been created at Pier 27/29 as a place for fans to congregate and watch live entertainment. Don’t miss out on what could be a once-in-a-lifetime event!
