It was the bee’s knees, the cat’s meow, the most swellegant event of the season! Trendy Lime’s trés chic pre-premier of Baz Luhrman’s hotly anticipated film adaptation of The Great Gatsby was a phenomenal success, all thanks to the enthusiasm and style of the Trendy Lime community.
Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald was once quoted as saying “I like large parties, they’re so intimate. At small parties, there isn’t any privacy.” Hopefully, you all feel the same, because this was definitely a large party! With over 200 well-heeled guests, we literally took over San Francisco’s Circa lounge and Marina Theatre. The event was also attended by various members of the media and members of the ArtDeco society of San Francisco.
As spectacular as the movie itself was, the real stars of the show were our fantastic guests. Honestly speaking, this was the best-dressed crowd we’ve ever hosted. There were classic flapper dresses, long elegant silk gowns, and gorgeous 1920s fashion of every description. The gentlemen looked very dapper as well, in impeccably cut suits and dashing hats. Congrats to our best-dressed woman, Annie, who showed up in a long glittery cream-colored dress to win an autographed copy of Teresa Rodriguez’s new book. Props also go to our best-dressed gentleman Brian, who epitomized true Gatsby style and won the very trendy SOLZ watch.
In addition to being able to admire their fellow attendees’ high fashion, guests also got to enjoy some authentic Jazz Age cocktails. Our bartenders were busy whipping up four classic cocktails: gin gimlets, raspberry rickeys, champagne juleps, and mint juleps. While all of the drinks were beyond delicious, the champagne julep was the runaway favourite of the night. After all, who doesn’t like a little bit of bubbly?
And then, of course, there was the movie. With the opulent costumes and set design and performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire, this stunning movie lives up to the dazzling visuals that you know from other Luhrmann movies like Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet. The film opened up everywhere on May 10, so be sure to add it to your “must see” list.
As the Fergie song on the Great Gatsby soundtrack goes, a little party never killed nobody, and our guests certainly agree with that sentiment. Our network raved about the event, saying it was “a wonderful evening,” that “all the details were covered,” and that it was a “glittery fun night with friends.” Everyone on the Trendy Lime team loved watching the movie — but best of all seeing a film about how to throw THE best parties gave us inspiration to throw even bigger and more fabulous event in the future!
